The NDP ended the Supply and Confidence Agreement with the Liberal government in 2024. After two years, and a number of significant wins, It became clear the Liberal government was too beholden to corporate interests to fight for people. The following wins made during the Agreement were opposed by both Liberals and Conservatives until the NDP forced the Liberals to enact them.

The Pharmacare Act

Canada’s first pharmacare law lays out a framework and roadmap that will lead to making all our prescriptions free. Just like a trip to the doctor’s office, you’ll cover it by showing your health card—not your credit card. As a first step, the NDP fought for and delivered free birth control and diabetes medications and devices.

New Protections for Workers

The NDP fought for and won Anti-Scab Legislation—after decades of working people fighting for it. Anti-Scab legislation makes it illegal for a corporation to use a replacement worker to do your job when you and your union are on strike or in a lockout.

The NDP Dental Care Program

Through the NDP Dental Care Plan, families with an income of under $90,000 will save $1,700 per year. By February 2025, 3.3 million people had a Canadian Dental Care Plan card, and more than 1.5 million people had already gotten the care they needed. Together with the Pharmacare Act, this represents the largest expansion of free Canadian health care in generations.

A National School Food Program

The NDP fought for and won a national school food program. As agreements with provinces and communities are reached, more and more kids will get healthy meals at school—so parents save money and kids can focus on learning and growing.
